Fabio Coentrao set for Real Madrid stay

Fabio Coentrao will remain at Real Madrid following a change of heart on his future, according to Carlo Ancelotti.

• Brewin: Bale ready for Bernabeu spotlight

The defender, 25, was linked with Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea, and has not been involved in any of Real’s opening three Primera Division games.

But, following the 3-1 win against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, Ancelotti confirmed that Coentrao was staying at the Bernabeu.

"Fabio is staying," he said. "I understood that he wanted to go, but really it was not the same desire for everyone. Now he's decided to stay and everybody, the club, players and coaching staff, are happy with this decision."

Before Real confirmed the signing of Gareth Bale on Sunday night, Ancelotti added that he was unsure about how busy the club would be on deadline day.

Kaka has been linked with a move to AC Milan, while Mesut Ozil is the subject of interest from Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.

Ancelotti said: "I don't really know what is going to happen tomorrow. I cannot say today. Anything could happen, both with regards to players coming in and players going out."
