We won't sell Aaron Hunt, say Bremen

Werder Bremen general manager Thomas Eichin has ruled out selling midfielder Aaron Hunt to Stoke City.

Aaron Hunt has recently lost his place in the Werder Bremen team
Hunt is staying put, Bremen say.

Hunt, 26, is the Werder vice-captain and is under contract until 2014. He has helped the club achieve a promising start to the season, picking up six points from three Bundesliga games.

Reports in the English media this week suggested the Potters had tabled a £5 million offer for him, with Stoke newspaper The Sentinel saying the two clubs had agreed a deal.

But Eichin, speaking to Bremen paper Weser Kurier, insisted Hunt would be staying, while Kreiszeitung Syke reported that rather than selling the player, who has played all his football at Bremen, the club hopes to extend his contract after the transfer window closes on September 2.

Meanwhile, Bild has said Reading are not interested in signing out-of-favour Bremen striker Joseph Akpala, 27. The Nigerian had been on trial at the Championship club, but his wage demands appear to have scuppered hopes of a transfer.

Bremen want to offload Akpala to make way for former Palermo left-back Santiago Garcia, 25. Garcia had cancelled his contract after conflicts with the Palermo fans before signing for Club Social de Deportes Rangers de Talca, who say they hold his transfer rights. FIFA is currently investigating the case.
