Spurs in Christian Eriksen talks
Tottenham Hotspur are to hold talks with Ajax star Christian Eriksen.
Ajax director of football Marc Overmars confirmed he had met with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy on Wednesday, with reports suggesting the Premier League side have increased their offer to over €10 million.
Ajax were reported be seeking €15 million for the Denmark international, 21, who has one year remaining on his contract.
Overmars told De Telegraaf that Eriksen was now set to hold talks with Spurs, with the clubs apparently having come to an agreement over the fee.
"Yes, Levy was here and Eriksen has been given permission to speak to Tottenham," he said.
However, Overmars is still hopeful that the player will stay.
“It’s only when the signatures are placed on the bottom of the agreement that a deal is done and that is not so,” he added. “Should it come to that, we would not be happy -- especially since we believe that this year Christian is getting better and more decisive in matches.
“In that respect we’d prefer him to stay, but the length of his contract is obviously very important and there are also agreements made in the past. You cannot get away from that.”
Eriksen, who had also been linked with Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund this summer, had previously indicated that he would extend his contract at the Amsterdam ArenA if he failed to secure a move to a suitable club.
Roma announced that Tottenham had completed the signing of Erik Lamela on Wednesday, but Andre Villas-Boas had also signalled his interest in Eriksen earlier in the day and said he expected further deals to be completed.
