Aaron Ramsey: Confidence behind form

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has put his recent resurgence down to a renewed bout of confidence.

• Brewin: Ramsey's redemption

Ramsey, 22, scored twice in Tuesday’s  2-0 Champions League win against Fenerbahce which saw the Gunners qualify for the group stages of the competition for a 16th consecutive time.

The Wales international, who spent eight months out with a double fracture in his right leg during 2010, is now hopeful of his best season yet at Arsenal if he can stay injury-free.

"Confidence is such a big thing in this game and I feel like that’s definitely been the biggest change," he told the club’s official website.

"Towards the back end of last season and into the new season I’ve felt so much more confident out there and I think that’s the biggest change really.

"I’ve always been getting into the positions, even last season, but maybe I’ve not been so composed in the shot to score the goal. I feel confident at the moment and things are just happening naturally out there. Hopefully it will continue.

"I think with the injury I had, it takes a long time to overcome that mentally. I’m over that now and I feel like I’m confident again. Things are happening naturally on the pitch so I’m feeling good out there at the moment."

Ramsey is now looking forward to Sunday’s north London derby against Tottenham, as he hopes to catch the eye once more in one of the key games of Arsenal’s season.

"It’s going to be a great game," he added. "We’re at home and we’ve been successful over the last few seasons. We’ve had three good results now where we’ve been really confident and hopefully we can take that into the Spurs game.

"The last two home games against Spurs were fantastic (won both 5-2). They were just great games. We didn’t start off too well in those games and the way we came back and the way that we handled the game and won both games was quite special. Hopefully we can do the same again."
