Gameiro: It was tough under Ancelotti

Sevilla striker Kevin Gameiro has hit out at the way he was treated by former Paris Saint-Germain boss Carlo Ancelotti last season.

Johnson: Adieu to Gameiro

Gameiro, 26, left the Ligue 1 champions last month following the arrival of Edinson Cavani for €64 million.

The France international sought the move after a season in which he made just eight starts in the league -- but still scored eight goals.

“It was difficult to live through and difficult to understand,” he told Canal+. “It’s not a question of starting -- it’s a question of playing a little more... when you score one weekend and the next weekend you don’t even come on, it’s a bit tough.”

The former Lorient striker let his frustration with Ancelotti show at times, most notably when he kicked a water bottle after being substituted against Troyes in April, but his problems began long before that incident.

“There was a big disappointment in the Champions League when I learned that I wouldn’t be starting even though there weren’t any attackers in the team,” he said. “From that moment on, it’s true that it was difficult.”

Gameiro, who said he learned a lot from the experience, scored his first goal for Sevilla in their Europa League win over Slask Wroclaw last week, and he believes things have improved considerably since last season.

“I was lacking the faith of the coach or the club and that’s what I’ve found here,” he said.
