Vlad Chiriches 'on his way to Spurs'

Steaua Bucharest defender Vlad Chiriches will become the latest in Tottenham’s line of summer additions, the Romanian club’s manager, Laurentiu Reghecampf, has said.

• Fitch: Spurs can juggle
• Crace: Tottenham cruise past Tbilisi
• Crace: Chelsea confirm deal for Willian

At a press conference on Saturday, Reghecampf said Spurs had agreed a deal to sign the Romania international as they look to add to their defensive options following the departures of Steven Caulker and William Gallas.

Reports suggest the 23-year-old will cost the Londoners around £8.5 million, but Steaua hope he will still be available to play for them in the second leg of their Champions League play-off against Legia Warsaw on Tuesday.

“The two clubs have agreed to transfer him. I'm very happy for him,'' Reghecampf said. “I cannot say the amount [for which he was transferred], but it is very high. It will be the most expensive transfer in the history of Steaua.

"The owner says that all there is left to do is sign some documents, but we hope he will help us on Tuesday night if he can."

Chiriches, who has played for four different Romanian clubs, also had a year spell at Benfica. He can play at full-back or in midfield as well as at centre-half.

Information from the Press Association was used in this report.
