Bayern holding fire on contract talks

Mario Gotze is hoping to return to full fitness in the next month, as Bayern Munich look ahead to a derby with Nuremberg and the UEFA Super Cup final against Chelsea.

Bayern Munich have put contract talks with a quartet of players on hold as the club wants to see how things pan out in the new season, kicker reports.

David Alaba, Jerome Boateng, Toni Kroos and Arjen Robben are all under contract until 2015, and have previously spoken of their desire to extend their Bayern deals.

Boateng was the latest player to reveal that “talks are planned” in an interview with kicker earlier this month, however, the European champions have now put all contract negotiations to one side until further notice.

According to Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the club’s hierarchy want to “take their time and discuss internally and wait and see how things will pan out”, while kicker suggests that coach Pep Guardiola wants to get an idea of the players before making any decisions.

The paper also believes that Bayern are currently shying away from any contract talks due to the healthy competition in their squad.

However, Alaba’s father and agent, George, told kicker that “Bayern have signalled that they want [to prolong]” his son’s contract.

Robben, meanwhile, who will be 31 by the time his deal ends, said: “Currently there is no reason to leave the club. If they are pleased with me and want to talk to me, I am ready to talk.”

Elsewhere, Rummenigge has also confirmed that the Treble winners’ summer transfer business is now complete.

Following the sales of Mario Gomez and Luiz Gustavo, the Bayern chief said that no other player will leave the club during the ongoing transfer window.

“The current squad will last,” he said, ending Diego Contento’s hopes of a summer switch to Werder Bremen -- whom the left-back had been strongly linked with during the last couple of weeks.
