Mubarak set to seal Rubin Kazan move

Wakaso Mubarak finally looks set to join Rubin Kazan from Espanyol in a transfer worth a reported €6 million.

Ghana's Mubarak Wakaso scores from the penalty spot against Cape Verde
Wakaso Mubarak is a Ghana international.

Mubarak, 23, who has been linked with Premier League clubs including Swansea and Everton, will either leave for the Russian club or agree to stay at Espanyol for another season, Pericos president Joan Collet told Mundo Deportivo.

"The Wakaso story should be sorted out within 24 hours,” Collet said. “He will either go to Rubin or, in the end, remain here.”

Former Elche and Villarreal playmaker Wakaso made 27 appearances for Espanyol last term, but scored just once and picked up 17 yellow and two red cards.

The future of the Ghana international has been up in the air all summer, with Collet previously voicing frustration that he had turned down a much-improved contract offer, and he did not feature in the club’s opening weekend draw at Celta Vigo.

According to Mundo Deportivo, should Wakaso be sold for €6 million, Villarreal would receive 25% of that figure, with the taxman also getting a chunk due to a previous agreement with the heavily-indebted Catalan club.
