Marc-Andre Ter Stegen coy on future

Barcelona target Marc-Andre ter Stegen says he is in no hurry to prolong his Borussia Monchengladbach contract.

Moenchengladbach's goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen
Marc-Andre ter Stegen has made three appearances for Germany.

Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl had hoped to extend the Germany international goalkeeper’s contract until 2015 over the course of the next few weeks.

Ter Stegen, 21, has continuously been linked with a switch to Barca, during the summer, with El Mundo Deportivo reporting that all parties had agreed on a €12 million transfer where he would replace Victor Valdes.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper has announced he will see out his contract at Barcelona and then leave the club on a free in the summer of 2014.

"We will sit down next week and do all we can to keep him here," Eberl said during a TV show on Sunday, adding that rumours linking Ter Stegen with a move were down to the fact "that he is one of the best German keepers and will maybe even become the best."

Eberl added that he would love "to keep Ter Stegen forever" but called that an illusion.

Speaking to Rheinische Post on Tuesday, Ter Stegen confirmed that he will enter contract talks but added: "We still have a lot of time, I still have two years left on my contract and there is no hurry."

Ter Stegen said he is completely focused on winning the next Bundesliga game away to local rivals Bayer Leverkusen.

"Whatever happens after that, I do not think about. It is still a bit of time until 2015," he said.

In another interview with German weekly Sport Bild, Ter Stegen explained he knows nothing about the rumours linking him to Barcelona.

“I am still with Borussia," he said. "I don’t feel like discussing my future all the time. I only think from year to year. I can confirm. I have not spoken to any club."
