Transfer Rater: Marcos Rojo to PSG

Scott Wootton joins Leeds

Manchester United have sold defender Scott Wootton to Leeds for a reported fee of £1 million.

Scott Wootton played for Manchester United in the Champions League on two occasions.
Scott Wootton played for Manchester United in the Champions League on two occasions.

The 21-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the Championship club after being deemed surplus to requirements by David Moyes.

Wootton made four first-team appearances for United during their defensive injury crisis last autumn, facing Newcastle and Chelsea in the Capital One Cup and Cluj twice in the Champions League.

A graduate of United’s youth system, Wootton had had loan spells at Tranmere, Peterborough and Nottingham Forest.

Leeds manager Brian McDermott said: “I’m delighted to have agreed the signing of Scott Wootton on a three-year deal. He’s a player who has played in the Champions League and someone we feel will develop with us in the coming years.

“I want to say thanks for the owners in doing the deal and bringing another young player to help us go forward.”

Moyes has allowed several other United youngsters to join Championship clubs with Reece Brown signing for Watford on a free transfer, Sam Johnstone loaned to Yeovil and Ryan Tunnicliffe borrowed by Ipswich.
