Madrid near Guilherme Siqueira capture

Real Madrid have lined up Granada left-back Guilherme Siqueira to replace the departing Fabio Coentrao, thwarting the efforts of Liverpool and Everton to sign the Brazilian defender.

Train: Casillas issue boiling over

Madrid and the Merseyside duo had been tracking Siqueira all summer, but Liverpool’s recent move to sign Aly Cissokho on a season-long loan deal suggests the Anfield club accepted they would miss out on him.

AS claims that Siqueira’s move to the Bernabeu will be sealed by executives from Madrid and Granada when the two clubs meet in La Liga at Los Carmenes next Monday.

Siqueira did not feature for Granada in the Andalucian club’s 2-1 opening day win at Osasuna on Saturday after reportedly training away from the rest of the squad in pre-season.

His buyout clause is reported to be €25 million, but Madrid appear confident of sealing the transfer for less than half that figure. Los Blancos’ left-sided Russia international Denis Cheryshev, 22, could spend next season on loan at Granada as part of the deal.

Coentrao could by then have moved to Tottenham should the long-mooted €100 million plus transfer of Gareth Bale to Madrid finally take place, with Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain other possible destinations should that world record deal fall through.

Siqueira has also consistently been linked with Everton this summer, with Roberto Martinez thought to see the set-piece expert as an ideal replacement should current Toffees left-back Leighton Baines follow his former boss David Moyes to Manchester United.

The Brazilian has impressed in his two Primera Division seasons at Granada, scoring 13 goals in 83 appearances, most of which were coolly dispatched penalties.
