Pardew condemns Arsenal's Cabaye bid

Alan Pardew has branded Arsenal disrespectful, accusing them of unsettling Yohan Cabaye with the timing of their offer for the midfielder.

Will Alan Pardew fail to get Newcastle United back on track this season?
Cabaye was left out of Pardew's starting line-up after revelations of Arsenal's bid.

The Gunners submitted a £10 million bid for the France international, which Newcastle rejected, but Pardew omitted Cabaye from his side for their opening league fixture, a 4-0 defeat at Manchester City.

Newcastle reject Cabaye bid

And the Newcastle manager, who believes Cabaye was not in the right frame of mind to play, was annoyed by Arsenal’s approach.

He said: "It is tough for his head to be turned on the eve of a game and I didn't see any reason why that needed to happen. Why they couldn't do us the respect and the honour of waiting until Tuesday evening is beyond me.

"I am not sure of the exact terms of it but it is below our valuation of the player for sure. I think it is just a very difficult situation when a player gets news like that and it wasn't us who gave him the news, that it is very hard to get your head round to play a game of this magnitude."

Pardew believes the transfer window should have been closed before the start of the campaign and thinks the summer's transfer sagas are proof it ought to be shut earlier next year.

"This is a terrific player. He is a player where you put him in the [Luis] Suarez and [Gareth] Bale situation which he has found himself in. There is a question about the window being closed before we kick off the Premier League season.

I know the Premier League asked the European leagues to do it and they said the European leagues wouldn't fall in line. After the summer we have had, the situations we have had, with [Wayne] Rooney as well, it is definitely something they need to put under the microscope again."

Pardew revealed defender Steven Taylor has apologised for his first-half dismissal in their defeat at the Etihad Stadium. The centre-back was shown a straight red card for violent conduct after a clash with Sergio Aguero and now faces a three-match suspension.

Pardew added: "The sending off was completely out of character for Steven and he has apologised. I can't really say anymore except that he is an honest player and made a mistake and we had to suffer the penalty for that."
