Toure hails new City signings

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has lauded the club's new signings after Jesus Navas, Fernandinho and Alvaro Negredo made successful Premier League debuts in Tuesday's 4-0 rout of Newcastle.

Yaya Toure curled home a fine free-kick to put Man City 3-0 up against Newcastle.
Toure scored City's third goal of the match.

Navas was particularly impressive during the win, providing a number of quality deliveries into the box to give Manuel Pellegrini's side the best possible start to the season.

David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Toure and Samir Nasri netted the goals for City, but the Ivory Coast international believes it was the impressive performance of his new team-mates that will provide the greatest impetus going forward.

"We tried to kill the game in the first half," Toure told Sky Sports. "The new players are amazing and we want to do fantastic things this year."

He added: "I think today was a  fantastic result, fantastic beginning. I want to continue like that because the Premier League is very, very tough. We played very well, full credit to all the team."

Striker Edin Dzeko played the full 90 minutes and was pleased with the way City played.

"I think we played a fantastic match and not only 45 minutes but 90 is what the manager expects from us," he said. "We played the first game at home and we wanted to show everyone what we are capable of.

"We scored four goals and we could have scored more but we are happy with these four. I wanted so badly to score but at the end, we won the game, we have three points and we have scored four."

The Bosnian also offered praise to Pellegrini.

"The new manager brings something different to us, especially to me; giving me the confidence and that's what I needed," he told Sky Sports 1.

Pellegrini echoed Dzeko's thoughts, insisting he was more concerned by the performance than the result.

"Most important thing is how we played for 90 minutes," he said. "I enjoyed the match, the people... It's a great start."
