Breno takes Bayern job after parole

Former Bayern Munich defender Breno has been granted day parole and will take on a job at his old club.

Breno could be released on day parole.
Breno will begin work with the Bayern youth team.

In July 2012, Breno, 23, was sentenced to three years and nine months for arson after setting fire to his own house while under the influence of alcohol the previous year.

Last month, reports suggested he could soon be released on day parole, with Bayern to offer him a role with their youth academy.

And after that parole was confirmed, the 23-year-old told a press conference: “Thanks, I am fine. The time, the 13 months of incarceration, was tough. But I have learnt a lot in prison. I am already a bit of a different person.”

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness said: “A member of the FC Bayern family has had huge problems. Now there is this glimmer of a chance, we would like to open the door for him.”

Breno has taken a role with Bayern’s youth department and will also train with the club’s reserve team. For the first months of his day parole, he is allowed to leave prison for five hours every day. That could be extended into the evening in future months and, from 2014, the remaining term could be turned into parole, his lawyers said.

When he has served his full sentence in 2015, it is likely that he will be deported from Germany. “It is highly likely he will not be allowed to play football in Europe or Germany,” Hoeness said.

Earlier this month, Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari had offered Breno his support, saying: “We would be ready to do our share and help Breno in his integration into a normal life. He should get the chance to return to his home in order to be allowed a new start.”
