Ibra excited about Cavani partnership

After seeing Edinson Cavani open his Paris Saint-Germain account, the Uruguay international's strike partner Zlatan Ibrahimovic told French media that he is convinced the pair will hit it off given time.

Edinson Cavani hit his first PSG goal against Ajaccio.

• Johnson: Cavani secures point

Ibrahimovic, 31, started alongside Cavani, 26, for the first time when PSG faced Ajaccio in their maiden home game of the Ligue 1 campaign on Sunday.

Cavani's 86th-minute equaliser, cancelling out Benoit Pedretti's ninth-minute opener, gave Laurent Blanc's side a second successive draw.

But although the outcome was disappointing, Ibrahimovic saw enough to believe that those who claim he cannot form an effective partnership with the ex-Napoli man are wrong.

"He scored a fantastic goal this evening. I know how he's feeling, because I scored on my first game at the Parc des Princes too,” he said. “I'm certain he's going to score a lot more.

“We talk a lot with each other. He had a lot of chances, I did too. He did his job by scoring, I didn't do mine. When the team works as much as it did, it's easier for the forwards.

“Now, we have to gain experience together. The team is going to continue putting us in good positions and things will start to go better very quickly."

While Cavani snapped up his late chance from one of three shots, Ibrahimovic -- who hit a league-high 30 goals last season -- had 11 efforts on goal but failed to find the net, although opposing goalkeeper, Guillermo Ochoa, played a part in frustrating the Sweden international.

However, despite seeing the €64 million signing beginning to repay his Ligue 1 record transfer fee and upstage Ibrahimovic, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi expects more to come when Cavani takes to the pitch at Nantes next Sunday.

"Everyone knows him, he's a great player," said the Qatari of the former Palermo player, whose pre-season was truncated by his involvement in the Confederations Cup with Uruguay. "He's scored the goal today, but he's not 100% in shape. I hope we'll see Cavani, the real Cavani, next week."
