Gareth Bale to miss further games

Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas-Boas has refused to discuss the future of Gareth Bale but did reveal he expects the forward to miss the forthcoming games against Dinamo Tbilisi and Swansea City.

• Crace: The Spurs paradox
• Fitch: Triumphant Spurs can get a whole lot better

Bale, who has been strongly linked with a €100 million move to Real Madrid, missed Sunday's 1-0 win over Crystal Palace with a foot injury.

Villas-Boas refused to be drawn on the future of the Wales international, preferring to discuss the performance of his team against Palace, as Roberto Soldado scored the winner.

Reflecting on the victory at Selhurst Park, he said in The Sun: "I’m extremely happy with the performance. We had good chances to put the game to bed during the 90 minutes.

"I can only be pleased we remained strong at the end to take it through to the final whistle.

"The other question that you and everybody else wants to know I’m not going to comment on.

"The player is injured. He’s not available for selection and is not likely to start against Tbilisi or Swansea."

Of his new signing Soldado, Villas-Boas hailed the Spain international's impact after he slotted home from the penalty spot.

He added: "You have to bear in mind that Robbie hasn’t been involved a lot because of the Confederations Cup. He was with us for only three weeks.

"So as soon as he gets fitter and sharper things will be even better for him. Of course I think he can get 20 league goals for us. His career speaks for itself.”

Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen, meanwhile, is keen for the arrival of September 2, when the transfer window closes, as the squad look to draw a line under the Bale saga.

Jan Vertonghen said: "Hopefully the transfer window will close quickly so we can look further and get on with our squad.

"It’s always strange when your team changes after a few games so everyone hopes it stays the same."
