Granero completes Sociedad switch
Esteban Granero has joined Real Sociedad on a season-long loan move from Queens Park Rangers, the Championship club have confirmed.
A QPR statement read: "Esteban Granero has returned to Spain to join Real Sociedad on loan. The 26-year-old midfielder has penned a season-long loan deal with the La Liga outfit.
"Granero, of course, joined QPR from Real Madrid last summer and has since made 28 appearances in all competitions for the Rs, scoring one goal. The deal is subject to international clearance."
The arrangement also offers Sociedad the option to purchase the player from QPR at the end of the season.
The San Sebastian club were confident that the lure of potential Champions League football would be enough to lure the playmaker, who also attracted interest from Fulham, Real Betis and Rubin Kazan, to accept a €1 million-a-year pay cut to help the deal go through.
Sociedad vice-president Mikel Ubarretxena also went on record with AS about the possible deal for a player who shares many characteristics with former Real Madrid player Granero.
"In the coming days there could be news about a midfielder, very well known in La Liga, who is playing abroad at the moment," Ubarretxena said.
Granero, 26, joined QPR for €8 million from Real Madrid in the summer of 2012, signing a four-year contract worth just under €3 million-a-year. He played 70 minutes in his current side's 1-1 Championship opening day draw at Huddersfield at the weekend.
La Real face a tough task to qualify for the Champions League group stages, after being drawn against Lyon in their play-off match.
