Vidic believes Rooney will stay

Nemanja Vidic has given David Moyes and the Manchester United hierarchy his backing as they deny Wayne Rooney a move and he believes they will bring the transfer saga to a satisfactory conclusion.

Nemanja Vidic tells striker Wayne Rooney “there'’s no point” in leaving Manchester United.

Manager Moyes has insisted time and again that the unsettled striker is not for sale and, although Chelsea have made two bids for Rooney, United have vowed to keep him at Old Trafford.

And while captain Vidic has been impressed by Moyes’ show of strength, he also praised Rooney for his attitude on the training ground.

"To be fair, I am not as worried as much," Vidic told Sky Sports News. "Wayne is training well and obviously the club is really strong in what they are saying and they obviously know what they are doing and I trust in the manager and the club. He's good in the dressing room and that's the most important thing.

"I think he has trained really well. Obviously he had a few small injuries in the last few weeks, but he has trained really well. Obviously he didn't have as much games, but the season is long and I think he will be good."

Apart from playing 45 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Real Betis, Rooney has not featured in United’s pre-season games.

However, he did play 67 minutes for England on Wednesday and Moyes will assess him to see if he is fit enough to be involved against Swansea on Saturday.
