Chelsea are in pole position to sign Samuel Eto’o from Anzhi Makhachkala, despite the striker being keen on a return to Inter Milan, the player’s agent has said.
Eto’o, 32, opened the door for a move to the Blues after admitting he would like to play under his former Inter boss Jose Mourinho once again.
And the Cameroon international’s representative, Claudio Vigorelli, has since told Italy’s Panorama that his client would also jump at the chance to move back to the Nerazzurri.
However, a return to Serie A for Eto’o could hinge on Chelsea’s bid for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.
Should the Blues fail to sign the England international, they would then turn to Eto’o, according to Vigorelli.
The money on offer in the Premier League could be enough to persuade the former Barcelona man to make the move, even he still has a strong affectionate bond with the club he fired to Champions League glory in 2010.
Panorama, without directly quoting Vigorelli, claim talks between Eto’o’s agent and Chelsea are already at an advanced stage, with the player free to leave Anzhi due to the Russian club looking to make major cuts.
Inter have already made their interest official, while Serie A rivals Napoli, who are also on the lookout for a new forward, have made an enquiry.
