United won't sell Wayne Rooney - report

England captain Steven Gerrard was coy over the future of friend and team-mate Wayne Rooney

Manchester United have decided Wayne Rooney will not be sold at any price, according to a report in the Guardian.

Manchester United are determined to hang on to Wayne Rooney.
Speculation about Wayne Rooney has rumbled on since the end of last season.

The Premier League champions’ owners, the Glazer family, have apparently insisted they will not countenance letting the England striker join Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho has had two offers rejected for the 27-year-old and has said Rooney is his only target in the remainder of the transfer window.

And United manager David Moyes has admitted that Rooney wants to leave United, for whom he has scored 197 goals. But the Scot has been adamant that Rooney is not for sale and his stance has been backed up by the club’s powerbrokers.

The Guardian reports any further Chelsea offers will be rejected "out of principle" and that it is not a matter of trying to increase Rooney’s price. Former United captain Gary Neville said earlier in the week that United would be "mad" to sell Rooney.

The former Everton striker is currently in the England squad, preparing for Wednesday’s friendly against Scotland, and has confided in Steven Gerrard about his future – but his international captain refused to disclose what they had discussed.
