European trio track Brillante

A-League club Newcastle Jets insist they are yet to receive a formal offer for midfield starlet Josh Brillante, despite reported interest from Everton, Lazio and Schalke.

Josh Brillante
Josh Brillante has become hot property.

Brillante impressed for the national team at the recent Under-20 World Cup, scoring a wonder-goal from 30-yards against El Salvador in the group stage.

That performance, coupled with those at club level in Australia last season, have seen Brillante feature on the radar of some of Europe’s big clubs.

The Newcastle Herald reports Everton, Lazio and Schalke are all tracking the 20-year-old, but his current employers claim a transfer is not yet in the offing.

“Josh is a talented young player with a bright future and he’s shown that with his performances in recent months,” chief executive Robbie Middleby said in a statement.

“He did extremely well for the Young Socceroos at the Under 20 World Cup and earned a well-deserved call-up to the senior Socceroos’ squad for the East Asian Cup.

“At this stage we haven’t received any formal offers for Josh and he remains a Jets player.”

Meanwhile, team-mates Ruben Zadkovich and Craig Goodwin, who recently underwent trials at Milwall and Reading respectively, also seem set to remain in Newcastle until the start of the A-League season in October.
