Germany accept Brooks' decision

Germany Under-21 coach Horst Hrubesch has told kicker is planning without John Anthony Brooks, with the Hertha Berlin centre-back having opted to represent United States.

• McIntyre: Chandler's US future uncertain

Hrubesch had hoped to persuade Brooks, the son of a US serviceman, to play for the Germany Under-21 team ahead of their European Championship qualifying campaign, with the player apparently undecided over his international plans.

However, the Berlin-born 20-year-old, who has appeared for both the USA and Germany Under-20 sides, has now received a call-up from Jurgen Klinsmann’s US squad for the upcoming friendly with Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Even should he appear in Wednesday’s match, Brooks would still be eligible to switch allegiance until either his 21st birthday -- on January 28, 2014 -- or until he played in a competitive senior international. Hrubesch, though, said the player is not under consideration.

“He is no longer in my plans,” he told kicker ahead of the Germany Under-21 team’s friendly against France this week.

Brooks’ US debut, should he feature in Sarajevo, would come just days after he scored on his Bundesliga debut in Hertha’s 6-1 humiliation of Europa League participants Eintracht Frankfurt.

He had been a key figure last season as Hertha secured promotion back to the Bundesliga.
