Ondrej Celutska joins Sunderland

Sunderland have completed a season-long loan deal for Trabzonspor full-back Ondrej Celutska, their tenth new arrival of the summer.

Paolo Di Canio is hoping to make his side more attack minded next season
Di Canio's total of summer signings has moved into double figures.

Randall: McClean break

The 24-year-old Czech arrives on Wearside with a view to a permanent transfer next summer.

Beginning his career with FC Tescoma Zlin in his homeland, he joined Slavia Prague in 2009 where he made over 40 appearances for the club. Having also spent a season on loan in Serie A with Palermo, he moved to Turkey in 2011 and to date has made over 50 appearances in the Turkish Super Lig.

Predominantly operating at right-back, Celutska’s capture brings to an end manager Paolo Di Canio’s protracted attempts to sign a full-back. Forced to deploy a number of players out of position, including midfielder Craig Gardner during pre-season, the need for to fill the position increased after a deal to bring Argentine defender Gino Peruzzi to the club stalled late last month.

Eager to move to Premier League, Celutska confirmed last week he had spurned offers from Turkey in order to pursue a career in England.

“Antalyaspor wanted me, but my goal is to play in England,” he told the Turkish press at the time. “For this reason, I did not accept the offer. The teams you are talking about as being interested in me (Sunderland and Crystal Palace) are accurate -- there could be tangible developments in the coming days.”
