Schalke and Hamburg drew 3-3 as they made a dramatic start to the Bundesliga season at the Arena AufSchalke.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar put Schalke ahead with only two minutes on the clock -- but Rafael van der Vaart fired Hamburg level from the penalty spot ten minutes later after a Joel Matip handball.
The visitors were in front after 24 minutes thanks to an own goal from Timo Hildebrand, but Huntelaar was on hand again to equalise right on half-time.
Lasse Sobiech put Hamburg in front for the second time early in the second half, but Adam Szalai struck to ensure that the points were shared.
In the day’s other Bundesliga encounter, Shinji Okazaki helped to ensure his old club Stuttgart were beaten 3-2 in another entertaining encounter at Mainz.
Nicolai Muller put the hosts ahead in the 14th minute, but Vedad Ibisevic equalised within two minutes. Okazaki put Mainz in front again before Muller stretched the advantage with his second goal of the game.
Although Martin Harnik pulled a goal back, Bruno Labbadia's side were unable to conjure up an equaliser.
