Charlie Davies joins Revolution on loan

The New England Revolution have acquired former U.S. national team striker Charlie Davies on loan from Denmark's Randers FC, the MLS club announced Friday.

•  ESPN Boston: Revolution take chance on Davies

Davies comes to the Revs on loan with a purchase option from Randers after the Revs traded their final natural selection in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft to D.C. United to obtain him.

Davies said he was excited about the move on Twitter:

Davies is expected to join the Revs at their next training session in Foxborough, Mass., on Tuesday.

"Charlie is an exciting, dynamic player who we believe can excel with us," Revolution general manager Michael Burns said in a statement. "He's a local product who's been on our radar since his teenage years, so we're pleased the opportunity arose to bring him to our club. Charlie's arrival will give us more options on the field, and will hopefully be a great boost as we head into the final few months of the season in search of a playoff berth."

Davies was playing at French club Sochaux when he was injured in a car accident and missed more than a year of action. When he recovered, Davies was loaned to D.C. United in 2011 and scored 11 goals in 26 appearances. Following his time in D.C., Davies returned to Sochaux for the remainder of the 2011-12 season before moving to Randers.

Davies has made 17 appearances for the U.S. national team but has not earned a cap since the 2009 crash.
