U.S. national team midfielder Alejandro Bedoya completed a move to French side Nantes on Thursday, signing a three-year deal. Bedoya, 26, passed a medical Thursday and will be presented Friday, Nantes said. Last season at Helsinborgs in the Swedish Allsvenskan, Bedoya played in both the Champions League play-off round and the Europa League. Bedoya expressed his happiness with the move on Twitter:
Bedoya will be the only American playing in Ligue 1 this season and the first to appear in France since Charlie Davies played for Sochaux in February 2012. He helped the U.S. win the Gold Cup final last month but has not played in any World Cup qualifiers this year. Nantes, who last won the Ligue 1 title in 2001, finished third in Ligue 2 last season to earn promotion to the top flight.
Really excited for this next challenge in my life/career! Happy to have signed a deal w FC Nantes in France Ligue 1! 👍⚽🙏 #MerciPourLeSoutien— Alejandro Bedoya (@AleBedoya17) August 8, 2013
