PSG rule out Yohan Cabaye move

Paris Saint-Germain boss Laurent Blanc has ruled out a move for Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye -- at least in the immediate future.

Blanc was interested in Cabaye, 27, when he was the manager of Bordeaux and he suggested last month that he might try to bring the player to Paris.

PSG have already spent over €100 million to sign Edinson Cavani, Marquinhos and Lucas Digne this summer. But Blanc, 47, says it is unlikely that they will make another purchase before the close of the transfer window.

"Right now, I’d say no,” he told Le Parisien. "But depending on how much we trim the squad by, it’s possible that we might take one extra player."

Blanc was in a playful mood when asked about Cabaye, however, saying that he still held him in the same regard as when he thought of signing him from Lille several years ago.

"He’s a very good player," Blanc said of the France international. "I haven’t changed my opinion. For the moment, he’s at Newcastle.

"I also read that Tottenham are interested in him. Newcastle, Tottenham, or Paris -- I hope that he’ll still be at a big club in September."

Several players are expected to leave PSG in the coming weeks and French defender Mamadou Sakho, 23, could be among them.

With Thiago Silva and new signing Marquinhos expected to form the French champions' central defensive partnership this season, Sakho could be forced to leave in search of a first-team football.

Blanc, who handed Sakho his international debut, confirmed that the player is considering his future.

"It’s a thought that he has," the former Manchester United centre-back said. "I said to him that he should accept the competition. If he accepts it, he should stay at PSG.

"At big clubs there’s always competition and there’s two players for every position. In central defence there are five players for the moment -- I’d prefer to have only four.

"They all have the potential to start. For the moment, he’s there. If he’s better than the others, he’ll play. If I feel he’s not as good as the others, he’ll wait."
