Jerome Boateng set for Bayern talks

Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng has revealed that he is planning to hold talks with the club over a new contract.

Jerome Boateng wants to prolong his stay at Bayern Munich.

Boateng, 24, joined Bayern from Manchester City in 2011, signing a four-year deal until 2015.

The European champions have previously announced that they would like to offer new contracts to Toni Kroos and David Alaba, who also have deals expiring in 2015.

And speaking to kicker, Boateng indicated that he too would like to extend his stay at the Allianz Arena.

“Talks are planned,” he said, adding that he could imagine a long-term future at Bayern. “I feel great here in Munich. It’s fun to play in such a team.”

The Germany international did, however, suffer a tough time towards the end of 2012, following his red card against BATE Borisov in the Champions League.

“It wasn’t easy in the winter since I was suspended in the Champions League and Daniel [van Buyten] played well,” he said.

But with the season moving on, Boateng managed to win back his place in the Bayern team and play a part in their Treble exploits.

“I never gave up. And I will never do so, no matter which situation I will be in,” he said. “I think that I fought back well.”

Boateng, whose free-kick set up the move for Arjen Robben’s last-minute winner in the 2013 Champions League final, believes that losing the final of the same competition against Chelsea the previous year kick-started their historic 2012-2013 campaign.

“It was my big goal to return to the final and do it better,” Boateng said. “I think not too many people can claim they actually achieved that. Our team - and so also me - achieved that.”
