Barcelona crush Santos

Barcelona has claimed the Joan Gamper Trophy after piling on the goals in an 8-0 pre-season romp against South American club Santos.

Lionel Messi was a familiar face among the goalscorers as Barcelona thrashed Santos.
Lionel Messi was a familiar face among the goalscorers as Barcelona thrashed Santos.

In an awesome display of attacking football, Barcelona scored four goals in each half to send their Brazilian visitors home with the heaviest defeat in the tournament’s 48-year history.

Leaving new man Neymar and Manchester United target Cesc Fabregas on the bench, new Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino watched in delight as his charges raced into a 3-0 lead in the opening 22 minutes.

Argentine maestro Lionel Messi opened the scoring in the 8th minute before a Leo own-goal and Alexis Sanchez completed a frenetic start to the game.

Pedro added another 15 minutes before the half-time break.

Martino made eight changes at the interval, but the one-way traffic continued in the second-half with Fabregas scoring back-to-back goals in the 53rd and 68th minutes.

Adriano scored again in the 75th minute before 18-year-old Cameroon striker Jean Marie Dongou completed the rout with number eight.
