Stoke City eye Sinclair, Aguledo

Mark Hughes expects to conclude the signing of Juan Agudelo over the weekend and has also entered the scramble to provide Scott Sinclair a fresh start away from Manchester City.

Scott Sinclair watched from the fringes far too often
Sinclair only moved from Swansea City last summer.

Whittaker: Work in progress

New England Revolution striker Agudelo is in advanced negotiations over a transfer away from the MLS club and Stoke are the latest club to register an interest with Manchester City concerning Sinclair, who has been told he can leave the City of Manchester Stadium.

Agudelo has 17 caps for the United States and held discussions with manager Hughes during Stoke's recent tour to America after invoking an MLS rule which allows him to speak to any club's interested in signing him after July 1.

The 20-year-old has been attracting interest from other Premier League clubs, including Crystal Palace, but the presence of other USA internationals Geoff Cameron and Brek Shea at the Britannia Stadium is believed to have tipped the balance in Stoke's favour.

Agudelo spoke at length with Hughes in Philadelphia this week and chief executive Tony Scholes remained behind after the Stoke touring party flew home to continue pursuing Agudelo's signature.

Hughes is keen to adopt an more attacking style this season and is looking to bolster his forward options, after failing to land Portuguese striker Nelson Oliveira from Benfica.

The move for Sinclair is another indication of the Welshman's desire to be more expansive and Hughes is ready to rival Everton, Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion for the former Swansea winger.

WBA have been in extended negotiations with City over Sinclair and want to secure a 12-month loan move, but City manager Manuel Pellegrini does not see the winger in his long-term plans and will be allowed to leave for around £6 million.

Hughes has spent the last two weeks assessing the squad he has inherited from Tony Pulis and is expected to meet with the club's board next week to discuss potential new signings.
