Leon Barnett joins Wigan from Norwich

Leon Barnett has ended his stay at Norwich by becoming Wigan’s ninth summer signing.

Premier League survival would be enough for Leon Barnett
Barnett helped Norwich win promotion in 2011.

The defender has signed a three-year deal at the DW Stadium after passing a medical and joins his former Norwich team-mate Grant Holt at Wigan.

He helped the Canaries win promotion to the Premier League in 2011 and made 51 appearances for the club.

But he lost his place in Chris Hughton’s side last season and Wigan manager Owen Coyle swooped for a player who has gone up from the Championship with three different clubs.

“As manager, to see the desire Leon has to play for Wigan Athletic is tremendous and we’re all delighted to have enticed a player of his calibre to our club," Coyle told the club's official website.

“He has shown his qualities in the Premier League on numerous occasions and has the experience of being successful in a division as tough as the Championship, winning promotion on three separate occasions.

“That kind of experience for someone who is still only 27 years old is fantastic, and I believe that whilst he has much maturity in his play he also has huge potential to become an even better player here at Wigan Athletic.”

Coyle has also signed strikers Holt and Marc-Antoine Fortune, goalkeeper Scott Carson, defenders Stephen Crainey, Thomas Rogne and Juan Carlos Garcia and midfielders James Perch and Chris McCann.
