Lyon midfielder Michel Bastos is set to finalise a move to United Arab Emirates side Al-Ain.
The Brazilian, 29, agreed a long-term loan deal with Schalke last season but the German side have not sought a permanent transfer despite being given first refusal.
Instead, L’Equipe reports that Al-Ain should complete a €4.5 million deal for the former Lille player on the eve of his birthday.
News of interest from the Middle East was first reported last week, with Lyon desperate to reduce costs in the wake of a €25 million shortfall.
They have already made a profit of €17 million from player sales during the summer and are still keen to offload strikers Bafetimbi Gomis and Jimmy Briand.
Lyon are set to make a third signing of the summer, however, with Henri Bedimo ready to join attacking midfielder Gael Danic and full back Miguel Lopes at the club.
Cameroonian left back Bedimo, 29, will undergo a medical at Lyon on Thursday with a view to completing a €2 million transfer.
L’Equipe also reports that Remi Garde's side could make a move for Lorient striker Jeremie Aliadiere, should Gomis leave the club.
The former Middlesbrough and Arsenal player, 30, scored 15 league goals last season but he was recently involved in a wage dispute with the club.
