Jackson Martinez eager to join Napoli

The agent of Porto forward Jackson Martinez says his client would relish the chance of joining Napoli while inviting the two clubs to strike an agreement over a fee.

Jackson Martinez could be the next big signing for Napoli.

Reina backtracks on loan claim

Napoli have already invested heavily this summer following the arrivals of Gonzalo Higuain, Jose Callejon, Raul Albiol, Dries Mertens and Pepe Reina, but owner Aurelio Laurentiis pledged to reinvest the €64 million raised from the sale of Edinson Cavani as well as a further €60 million.

Rafa Benitez is now eager to add another striker to his squad, and Martinez is the priority. However, Napoli have yet to make an offer that meets Porto’s expectations, and the Colombian’s agent, Manuel Manso, has advised the Italian club to meet his €40 million release clause.

“It would be an honour and a privilege for Jackson Martinez to play in such an illustrious club as Napoli,” Manso told Radio Crc. “There is a €40 million release clause and it’s hard to see an alternative to that. Porto have got to reach an agreement with the Azzurri.”

The two clubs will get the chance to sit around a table in London this weekend when they meet in the Emirates Cup, but Martinez has already sounded out a compatriot and potential future team-mate on life in Naples.

“He’s asked for information from [Juan] Zuniga, who has spoken very highly to him about the Azzurri,” Manso added. “It would be a great solution for my client. He would be delighted to play alongside Higuain.”

Napoli are also reported to be interested in Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel, another of Benitez’s former players from his reign at Anfield.
