Ivica Olic plans MLS move

Wolfsburg striker Ivica Olic wants to see out his contract until 2014 and then leave Bundesliga after eight years to end his career in the United States or Dubai.

Olic's contract expires next summer.

Uersfeld: New kids on the block

Olic, 33, made the switch from Bayern Munich to Wolfsburg last summer. The Croatia international had starred in Bayern’s run to the Champions League final in 2010 and won the domestic double that season.

Last term, he scored nine goals  - with eight of them coming in the final ten games of the season - and set up another six in 32 games for Wolfsburg, who finished their campaign in mid-table.

He will now only add a maximum of 34 to his 165 Bundesliga appearances for Hertha Berlin - where he played two games during the 1998-99 season - Hamburg (78 games), Bayern Munich (55) and Wolfsburg.

“Most probably this will be my last year in Bundesliga,” Olic told Sport Bild. “If my body allows it and I remain fit, I want to play another year in the USA or Dubai."

The attacker, capped 85 times by his country, looked back on his Bundesliga career and told the paper that he had his most emotional time at Hamburg.

“There was always a fantastic atmosphere in the stadium. In 2009, we reached the semi-final of both the German Cup and the UEFA Cup,” he said.

In a run of four games in only a couple of weeks at that time, Hamburg had been eliminated from both competitions by local rivals Werder Bremen and also suffered a 2-0 defeat against Bremen in Bundesliga.

“My most successful time in sporting terms were my three years at Bayern,” he added.

Wolfsburg general manager Klaus Allofs told Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung he was not surprised to hear about Olic’s plans.

“He will be 34 by then, I think that’s a normal process. But currently I am not concerned with the end of the season," he said. "I hope Ivica will in equally good form than during the second part of last season.”
