Neymar happy with Barcelona debut

Neymar spoke of his delight after making his Barcelona debut but claimed it will take time for him to get up to speed.

Tomas: Fabregas must stay

The Brazil international came on for the final 15 minutes and although he wasn’t able to affect the score line – the game ended 2-2 – the forward was delighted to have finally represented his new club for the first time.

"I am very happy to have made my debut," he said. "I’m very proud to play for Barca. I just need a bit more time to adapt and to get match fit."

Despite the fact that Neymar was on the pitch for only a short space of time, he won four free kicks and the Lechia defence struggled to cope with his talent.

"There were some strong challenges but it’s fine, they didn’t hurt me", the Brazilian said.

The game was billed as the first match that Leo Messi and Neymar would line up side-by-side but Messi, captain for the night, was replaced two minutes before Neymar came on. However the Brazilian is just happy to be in the same team as the four-time Ballon d’Or winner.

"I feel very comfortable with him," Neymar said. "He’s an idol of mine and I’m so happy to be able to be alongside him. He’s a fantastic player and a great person and I just want to help him to continue making the Barca fans happy."

It’s likely that Barca’s South American stars will play together for the first time in the Joan Gamper trophy, a match between the Catalans and Neymar’s former team Santos.

"I’m so proud to be able to play for Barca. It will be odd playing against Santos, but Barca is my team now," the 21-year-old said.
