Maxwell the new face for Brazil

Paris St Germain defender Maxwell is the only new inclusion in the Brazil squad named to face Switzerland in a friendly on August 14 in Basel.

Brazilian defender Maxwell
PSG defender Maxwell has been selected for the latest Brazil squad.

Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has kept faith with the players who secured this year’s Confederations Cup, but with Real Madrid defender Marcelo still working his way to full fitness, the 31-year-old Maxwell finally has a chance to impress at senior international level.

The former Barcelona and Inter Milan defender has won six Under-23 caps for Brazil, but surprisingly has never featured for the senior Brazil side, having failed to take the field during his one previous call-up in 2004.

Atletico Madrid's Filipe Luis, who played at left-back in the Confederations Cup, drops out of the squad along with keeper Diego Cavalieri, defender Rever and midfielder Jadson.

Brazil squad to face Switzerland on August 14:

Julio Cesar (QPR), Jefferson (Botafogo); Thiago Silva (Paris St Germain), David Luiz (Chelsea), Dante (Bayern Munich), Daniel Alves (Barcelona), Jean (Fluminense), Marcelo (Real Madrid), Maxwell (Paris St Germain); Fernando (Shakhtar Donetsk), Hernanes (Lazio), Luiz Gustavo (Bayern Munich), Paulinho (Tottenham), Oscar (Chelsea), Lucas (Paris St Germain), Bernard (Atletico Mineiro); Fred (Fluminense), Neymar (Barcelona), Jo (Atletico Mineiro), Hulk (Zenit St Petersburg).
