Mehdi Abeid heads to Panathinaikos

Newcastle United midfielder Mehdi Abeid has joined Panathinaikos on a season-long loan deal.

Former Lens midfielder Mehdi Abeid is just one of the Magpies' ever-growing French contingent
Mehdi Abeid was loaned to St Johnstone last season.

Abeid, 20, joined Newcastle from Lens in 2011 but has struggled to break into Alan Pardew’s first-team plans.

He headed to Scottish side St Johnstone in January to continue his development and will now look to make an impression at Panathinaikos.

A statement on the Greek club's official website read: “Panathinaikos FC announces that it has entered into an agreement with Newcastle United for the one-year loan of Algerian international footballer Mehdi Abeid.”

Information from the Press Association was used in this report.
