Injury forces Cahill out of MLS All-Stars

Socceroos star Tim Cahill has been ruled out of Wednesday's Major League Soccer All-Star Game against Italian side Roma with a suspected knee injury.

The New York Red Bulls midfielder hurt himself in the early minutes of Saturday's 4-3 win over Real Salt Lake after being caught in a high tackle with Yordany Alvarez.

The 33-year-old limped to the sideline moments later but returned in the 11th minute to head home a lofted free kick from Thierry Henry.

Cahill was reportedly seen with a severely swollen right knee after the match.

All-Star coach Peter Vermes on Sunday replaced Cahill with 20-year-old Philadelphia Union forward Jack McInerney for the friendly in Kansas City.

McInerney is fourth in the MLS Golden Boot race with 10 goals in 19 games.

"Shaken off some injuries in my time but this time it's impossible. Sad I can't be part of an amazing setup the @MLS Allstars #RBNY," Cahill tweeted.

He later posted a picture of himself with a compression machine attached to his right leg.

"This has been my day and night today and hopefully only just for the rest of the week. Putting the body back together," he wrote.
