U.S. to call up John Anthony Brooks

The United States have called up Hertha Berlin defender John Anthony Brooks for the friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina in Sarajevo on August 14, his club manager said.

John Anthony Brooks had an impressive 2012-13 campaign
The U.S. will call up defender John Anthony Brooks for an August friendly, says Brooks' manager at Hertha Berlin.

Brooks, 20, is eligible to play for both United States and Germany, but he recently opted against featuring in the Americans' Under-20 World Cup campaign.

He made his first appearance for the U.S. Under-20 team in 2010. He has also played with the German Under-21 squad, but did not make the team for this summer's European championship.

"The appointment will give him a boost," Hertha manager Michael Preetz told kicker.

The 6-foot-5 Brooks signed a new deal with Hertha in June, tying him to the club until 2017.

He was a regular fixture for the team last season, making 29 appearances as the club won the German second division.
