Norwich confirm signing of Hooper

Norwich City have made Gary Hooper their seventh signing of a busy summer, with the striker arriving from Celtic for an undisclosed fee.

Gary Hooper is likely to be poached by an English club before his Celtic contract expires in 18 months
Hooper had been a Norwich target since January.

Earlier this week, it appeared that Hooper, who scored 82 goals in 137 Celtic games, was on his way to Queens Park Rangers after the London club agreed a fee.

However, on Thursday it emerged that the Canaries, who had chased the 25-year-old in January, had also had a bid accepted.

Hooper has signed a three-year Carrow Road deal with the option of a further year. Reports suggest the fee is around £5 million, while it is alleged that Hooper will be paid £10,000 a week less than he would have been at Loftus Road.

The striker, who has also played for Southend United and Scunthorpe United, told Norwich's official website: "There's been a lot of speculation going back to January, and I'm pleased to have finally put pen to paper and joined Norwich.

"I can't wait to get down to work, to get training with the lads and working with the coaching staff. I knew [manager] Chris Hughton and [assistant] Colin Calderwood from my youth days at Spurs, so it will be great to be back working with them in the Premier League.

"I have scored goals at every level I have played at, and the challenge of playing in the Premier League is really exciting to me."

Hooper added that Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster – who spent a year on loan at Carrow Road as the Canaries won the League One title in 2009-10 – had recommended the club to him.

"I had a chat with Fraser about Norwich, and he said it was a great club, with great fans and in a really nice part of the world. He said he really enjoyed his time here," he said.

He also paid tribute to the Celtic and their fans, saying: "I just want to thank everyone up there for the past few years - the fans have been fantastic to me, and the club have really looked after me."
