Cardiff favourites to land Capoue

France international Etienne Capoue is on the verge of a move to English Premier League newcomers Cardiff City, despite the midfielder favouring a switch to Atletico Madrid.

Etienne Capoue has been strongly linked with a Toulouse exit
Etienne Capoue scored seven goals from midfield for Toulouse last season.

Toulouse have accepted an offer worth up to £12 million from the Welsh club but the prospect of Champions League football with Atletico is unsurprisingly providing a bigger lure for Capoue.

However, it appears the decision will be out of the player's hands as Cardiff have made the biggest bid for his services.

L’Equipe reports that Capoue's agent has begun discussions with Cardiff and that the midfielder will meet club representatives on Friday.

Copa del Rey holders Atletico had an offer for Capoue rejected by Toulouse this month and the French club’s president made it clear this week that they would not be forced into a sale.

"The clubs who are interested in Etienne should now know that we will not accept an offer inferior to that which was put forward by Cardiff," Olivier Sadran told L’Equipe.

Capoue scored seven goals in 34 starts for Toulouse last season and has one goal in six appearances for France.
