Dortmund hold Gundogan contract talks

Borussia Dortmund have entered contract talks with midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has confirmed.

Marca has Dortmund's Ilkay Gundogan at the top of its list to replace Xabi Alonso
Gundogan scored Dortmund's goal in the Champions League final.

Last season's beaten Champions League finalists have tied nearly all of their key players to the club past 2015.

The only exception is striker Robert Lewandowski, who it is believed will see out his deal until next summer and then head to league rivals Bayern Munich on a free transfer, joining former Dortmund team-mate Mario Gotze at the Allianz Arena.

The only other major contract ending before the 2016 European Championships is now the contract of the versatile Gundogan, who's current Dortmund deal runs for another two years.

The Germany international has been linked to several European top clubs including Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United after taking the European football scene by storm with his displays during the 2012-13 Champions League.

Gundogan, however, in the past has said that he could imagine staying at the Westfalenstadion beyond 2015, and BVB sporting director Michael Zorc has confirmed that talks over a new contract have begun.

“We have talked to Ilkay and his dad and agent Irfan,” Zorc told DerWesten, confirming a meeting in early July. According to the paper's sources the talks will resume next week.

Meanwhile, the US youngster Junior Flores made his debut for Dortmund’s Under-19 side in a tournament held in Dortmund this week. According to kicker the attacking midfielder, 17, is set to sign for the club once he turns 18 next year, and is currently eligible to play with a three-month guest licence.
