Luiz Gustavo not planning Bayern exit

Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo has played down talk of his impending departure from the club and insisted he has no plans to leave.

Luiz Gustavo joined Bayern from Hoffenheim.
Luiz Gustavo added the Confederations Cup to the Treble he won with Bayern this summer.

The Brazil international has been linked with a transfer away from the European champions following reports in German media that he was no longer a central part of coach Pep Guardiola’s plans.

Bundesliga club Wolfsburg have already lined up an offer for Bayern’s holding midfielder and are set to make a move if the player becomes available.

And while Gustavo has also been linked with the Premier League clubs Arsenal and Chelsea, the midfielder said he had no plans to leave Bayern.

“I have a contract until 2015 and want to see it out,” Gustavo told Munich-based paper tz.

The 25-year-old is only one of many high profile midfielders now in the Bayern squad. With the recent signing of Thiago Alcantara and Bayern’s new 4-1-4-1 system, the competition for a place in the starting XI has increased since last term.

“I have only just returned,” Gustavo, who was part of Brazil's Confederations Cup-winning side earlier this summer, said. “I need to refine myself to learn Pep’s philosophy. At Bayern you always have to fight and I will have to fight again this year,” he added.

Meanwhile, midfield talent Emre Can could be on his way out of Bayern, tz reports. Can has been linked with a loan stint at Eintracht Frankfurt, with other clubs also after the youngster. According to the report, a decision about the 19-year-old’s future will be made in early August.
