Ibrahimovic to hold talks with PSG

Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic sees no reason to leave Paris Saint-Germain but says he is planning to discuss his future with the club president.

Ibrahimovic won the French league title in his debut season at PSG but rumours about the 31-year-old’s intentions have intensified following the departure of Carlo Ancelotti - the man who brought him to Paris.

A reunion with Ancelotti at Real Madrid now seems unlikely but Manchester City are reportedly thinking about offering the former Barcelona striker a move to the Premier League.

Ibrahimovic returned to training with PSG last Thursday and he is set to feature in their friendly against Hammarby in his native Sweden on Tuesday evening.

During a press conference on the eve of that game the Sweden captain addressed his future, noting that he is contracted to PSG until 2015. 

“I have a contract with PSG and in principle there’s no reason why my situation should change this summer,” L’Equipe reported Ibrahimovic as saying.

“In fact I’ve still not thought about the question. Above all I have to meet my president. We should discuss the details – small as well as big.”

Ibrahimovic, whose 30 goals last season helped PSG win their first Ligue 1 title in 19 years, said he had a good relationship with club president Nasser al-Khelaifi.

“We speak a lot, even about property,” he said. “But I’m confident because I know, more or less, what’s going to happen.”

Along with defender Thiago Silva, PSG’s Qatari owners see Ibrahimovic as a key part of their project and L’Equipe suggests that the “details” Ibrahimovic wants to talk about could be his wages.

The paper believes that the player could use reported interest from Manchester City as leverage to help bump his salary at PSG to over €15 million per year.

On a sporting level, Ibrahimovic will have been reassured by PSG’s acquisition of defenders Marquinhos and Lucas Digne. And he is also looking forward to working with Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani, who signed from Napoli for €64 million.

 “I’ve never played with him so we’ll have to learn to know each other,” he said. “He’s going to have to familiarise himself with the team, the city and the supporters. He’s a very good reinforcement.”
