Borini agent tempers Lazio talk

Fabio Borini’s agent has played down reports linking the striker with a move to Lazio, according to the Italian media.

Fabio Borini
Borini struggled for fitness last season.

Borini suffered an injury-hit first season at Anfield following a £10.5 million move from Roma last July.

He was absent for more than three months after fracturing a bone in his foot last September, then dislocated his shoulder in mid-February, an injury that kept him out until late April.

Reports in Italy initially suggested that Lazio were interested in a £10 million move for the 22-year-old.

But Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers indicated on Monday that he is looking to add to his forward line rather than ship players out.

And Marco De Marchi, Borini’s agent, has suggested that the striker would prefer to stay and fight for a regular place at Anfield.

He told Radiosei: “I can confirm that Lazio sporting director Igli Tare has always been a fan of Fabio, but I have not had any contact with Lazio.

“What I can assure you is that Borini is concentrating on doing well for Liverpool to beat the competition for places in attack.

“At this moment, he only has Liverpool in his mind. We are talking about one of the greatest clubs in the world.”

Rodgers, who is hoping to convince Borini’s fellow forward Luis Suarez to backtrack on plans to leave Anfield, has made it clear that he is looking for more attacking options.

He told a press conference on Monday: “We need a bit more support at the top end of the field and that’s something that we're looking for.”
