Ancelotti denies Higuain exit

Carlo Ancelotti denied that Real Madrid have accepted an offer for Gonzalo Higuain, and claimed that he wants the striker to remain at the club.

The Argentine forward came on as a substitute to score in the Spanish club’s 6-0 pre-season friendly win away to Bournemouth, despite reports emanating from Italy that Real had accepted a bid in the region of €40m.

When these claims were put to Ancelotti, however, he denied them.

“It’s not true. I don’t have news about this," the new Real Madrid manager said after the game.

“I spoke to Higuain this week. As I said, he’s a Real Madrid player and until there are news, I have to consider him a Real Madrid player and I would like he would stay with us.

“I think that now I speak of Higuain as a Real Madrid player, fantastic player, fantastic striker. For him tonight to score very important for us. It’s not tonight to judge the price of the player.”

The quotes do back up a suggestion from Spain that, although Real Madrid will likely sell Higuain to either Arsenal or Napoli eventually, Ancelotti is reluctant to allow the player to leave until his team bring in a forward of their own.

Real remain extremely keen on Gareth Bale, but have accepted that they may have to hold off until at least next summer. Meanwhile, their interest in Luis Suarez has stalled and Spanish transfer market sources claim they are prepared to bide their time until the right deal becomes available.
