Mancienne set for Hamburg exit

Hamburg are attempting to offload five fringe players, including former Chelsea centre-back Michael Mancienne, this summer.

Sporting director Oliver Kreuzer and coach Torsten Fink have agreed on a list of players to be sold to reduce the club’s annual wage bill to under €40 million.

Rober Tesche, Paul Scharner, Gojko Kacar and ex-Chelsea players Slobodan Rajkovic and Mancienne have been informed they are deemed surplus to requirements at Hamburg.

“At first they were disappointed, frustrated and obstinate,” Kreuzer told Bild. “But every footballer wants to play and not only train. There might be some news on the sales front over the next couple of days.”

Abendblatt, though, claim that only former Hertha Berlin midfielder Kacar could leave the club over the next few days, with Rubin Kazan currently scouting the player while he is training with Hamburg’s reserves.

“Rubin would be a good option,” Kacar told Abendblatt.

However, Kazan scout Alexander Asimov is not yet convinced about Kacar’s abilities.

“We know he is available, but he currently does not have the form he’d need for Kazan,” Asimov said.

According to Abendblatt, two Eastern European clubs have enquired about Rajkovic, while sides from England, France and Spain are interested in Mancienne, although there has been nothing concrete as of yet.

Scharner, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Wigan, would like to stay in the Bundesliga, with Augsburg reportedly interested in the centre-back.
