Marquinhos set for €35m PSG move
Brazilian defender Marquinhos is preparing to link up with compatriot Thiago Silva at the heart of the Paris Saint-Germain defence next season after a €35 million fee was agreed with Roma.
Marquinhos, 19, is on his way to Paris where he is expected to sign a five-year contract, paving the way for an exit from the club he joined only 12 months ago.
“I’ll never forget my time in Rome," he wrote via Twitter. "It was delightful and I will always carry it in my heart. Thanks to all of the fans, the club and my team mates. Roma forever!"
Marquinhos spent just one season in the Eternal City following his move to Serie A from Corinthians, and Roma are set to make a profit of over €30 million in that time.
It is no surprise, therefore, that Marquinhos was left out of the Giallorossi’s first warm-up game of the summer on Wednesday.
Although Marquinhos looks to be leaving Roma, midfielder Miralem Pjanic was has pledged his commitment to the Giallorossi cause despite being linked with Tottenham.
Speaking to the media in Roma’s pre-season training camp in Riscone di Brunico, the 23-year-old said his aim "is not to leave" the club.
"I’ve always wanted to stay here and I want to give it my best to start the season well," he said. "The more the years pass, the more important I feel here. I want to take the responsibility in this club and help them reach the top.
"Since things didn’t work out in the Coppa Italia, I want to give even more this year. I hope I manage to play with continuity and without injuries."
