Moyes firm over Chelsea target Rooney

Manchester United manager David Moyes has reiterated Wayne Rooney is not for sale, amid a report from the Daily Mirror that the club have no intention of buckling under Chelsea's interest.

Chelsea saw a bid for Rooney rejected by United this week, although the club are expected to make a second approach after Blues boss Jose Mourinho confirmed it is "Rooney or bust".

However, Moyes has reiterated his stance regarding the England international's future, stating: "The club's position has not changed."

Rooney is apparently open to a move away from Old Trafford after it was claimed he is "angry and confused", following comments from Moyes regarding his place in his starting XI.

But the Independent reports the Red Devils will seek clear-the-air talks with Rooney and his agent Paul Stretford in order to clarify the player's desire.

Rooney's head could be turned by Mourinho's Chelsea, with the Evening Standard alleging they are prepared to make him their "highest-paid player".

On Thursday, Mourinho reaffirmed his belief that Rooney needs to be playing regular first-team football ahead of the 2014 World Cup.
