Mourinho to send Wallace out on loan

Jose Mourinho has confirmed Brazilian defender Wallace will be loaned out for the season, despite making his debut for Chelsea on Wednesday.

Wallace is expected to leave his native Brazil for a new challenge in Europe
Wallace spent the second half of last season on loan at Fluminense

Wallace, 19, joined Chelsea from Fluminense in December 2012 but stayed on with the Brazilian club on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Brazil Under-20 international impressed in Chelsea's 1-0 win over the Singha All Stars on Wednesday, but does not appear to be part of Mourinho's short-term plans.

Instead, it seems likely Wallace could be sent to Roma as leverage in Mourinho's attempt to sign midfielder Daniele De Rossi from the Italian club.

The Portuguese boss revealed Chelsea are still keen to keep the right-back on their books but will allow him to gain experience elsewhere for the next 12 months.

"He's a very good player - but he won't be staying with us because we have Ivanovic and Azpilicueta for the same position," Mourinho said, according to the Mirror. "Because he is non-EU we'll not get the work permit, it'll be too early, so he'll go on loan for a season.

"We'll get the best option for him, in Europe. We want him to adapt. He's very mature for his age, comfortable with the ball. He has the quality of a Brazilian full-back, likes to attack and create.

"So we'll see the best of him: he has talent and is one more investment for this club, a good investment, because the kid is a very good player."

Blues midfielder Frank Lampard suffered an injury scare in the lead up to Wednesday's game, but Mourinho insists the England international will be a key part of the club's upcoming campaign.

"It was a precaution. He was feeling discomfort on his Achilles, so we decided he wouldn't play," Mourinho added. "I always say the players have to be intelligent in this period. No risks. If they feel a little thing, don't play.

"In competition you have to risk something. In pre-season, the worst thing that can happen is an injury while taking a risk. Frank will rest like everyone tomorrow and in two days' time he'll be back in training."
